The secret sauce I literally stir into my paint to save 50%, 60%, or as much as 80% on paint when I'm painting Aspen trees. Plus, this almost magic ingredient transforms your painting into a 3-dimensional world inviting viewers into a sensory experience.
Give your Aspen trees a realistic roundness with this simple scooping technique. A blind person once touched my Aspen Tree painting and could tell by touch he was feeling a tree. That's how effective this simple technique is. It's as easy as frosting a cupcake.
WARNING: It doesn't have to be perfect! In fact, you don't want it to be perfect. Perfect ruins the effect. Use this rounding stroke with your palette knife to really make it stand out.
What to never ignore if you want your painting to have the WOW effect when you're finished. First, it needs to be just the right kind of ugly. Only then will you be ready for the finishing touches.
How to carve out your tree knobs by using imperfections to your advantage. If You're not careful to avoid this common mistake, your canvas could turn into a polka dot painting.
The tell-tale sign in your trunks that you've found the perfect spot for a branch or knob. Once you find it, all it takes it a quick twist of the wrist.

My zig-zag method for creating tiny life-like wings. Most professionals would probably look down their beaks at me for painting like this. But hey, it works! And it's easy! In my book, that's all that matters here.
The "pop" in your paint makes it look like a real woodpecker. A trick of the light makes it just right.

How punching skyholes into your landscape can quickly transform your 2D creation into a 3D wonder-world. It softens the harsh lines and makes your scene sparkle with authenticity.
My favorite "pointer finger" method for finishing your painting with style. It creates an eye-catching contrast you can't get from a paintbrush or palette knife.
A gnarly eyeball technique. All it takes is a few last-minute swipes of white and your forest practically starts breathing with life.
The secret way I get new collectors with a few simple strokes of my brush. Some of my biggest collectors found me because I added this finishing touch some artists forget, to their cost.
What never to leave off the back of your canvas. Add at least 3 or these 4 things if you want to be taken seriously.
